A WORLD WE DARE TO IMAGINE (Post #1)

After reading the excerpt and the book The Blue Sweather, it has opened my eyes to the rest of the world and challenged me to think of ways to make the world a better place. Many people say that the “American Dream” is a lie because people do not have the same opportunities. I believe this to be false claim, and I think there are other reasons to why some people find themselves as an adult not being able to be successful.  I believe that our society should start investing more money on the children especially at a young age.

The “American Dream” is one hundred percent real in the United States.  Whenever I think about this statement I always think about my father, and his path to success. My father came to the United States as an Immigrant with no family, no friends, and no money. Today, he is extremely successful because of the opportunities America has given to him. He will no doubt admit it was easy, but my father came from a good family who educated him well and he grew up with a great work ethic which he brought with him to the United States.

In my Sociology class I had took last year here at USC, we learned that the lowest investment goes to young children while the most amount of money given by the government is going to Seniors. The reason for this is because our society believes that it is the governments job to take care of the elders, and the responsibility for parents to take care of their children. Although, this does sound ideal, millions of children around the world live in poor ways such as single family homes, or poverty. There are numerous ways in which we can help young children succeed to be more prosperous in the future. First, there should be a bigger investment for government subsidies given to families. Some of the subsides can include ways to help families move from high crime and low income areas. This way the Parents can have a better opportunity to be more successful which will trickle sown to their children. These children will also be attending better schools in these areas.
