WHO YOU ARE MATTERS
My name is Steven Ashoori and I was
born and raised here in Los Angeles, specifically Beverly Hills. This is my 4th
year at USC, and prior to becoming a Trojan I went to a small private High
School called Milken Community High School. I am currently majoring in the
Business Administration and minoring in Real Estate Development. I am also a
Progressive Degree student in Construction Management, which I hope to start
next semester.
After I
finish graduate school here at USC in Construction Management, I see myself
working in Business and Real Estate development. My short term goal out of
college will be to start off learning at a development firm or maybe even
brokerage to put myself out there in the industry. My long term goal is to
eventually have my own development company, with a huge portfolio of a variety
of properties. Another long term goal of mine is to take over my families business
and continue to manage and develop franchise restaurants.
I am like
my parents in many different ways, and take the different attributes that both
of them carry. I am similar to my father in the sense of our work ethic and
commitment to any task. My father also got me to think really business minded.
Similarly, I am a lot like my mother in that we both carry the same type of communication
skills, and also how we approach the public. On the other hand, I am unlike
both of my parents because I feel that I do tasks in a much more creative way
than them. Furthermore, my parents do put a lot of expectations that I do hope
I succeed to make them happy; however, everything I do in my life is usually
what I think is best for myself as well. For example, my parents really want me
to work hard in school and graduate from USC, and I just took their expectations
above and beyond by doing a minor and well as another degree in Construction Management.
This was not a part of my parents expectations, but I feel like it was best
suited for my career goals.
The person
who serves as a great model for myself is Warren Buffet. What I believe is so
influential in Warren Buffet is the way he approaches life even with all the success
he had until this point in his life. Warren Buffet who is the most successful investor
in history, still lives the same kind of life he did fifty years ago and plans
to donate 99% of his wealth to charity. He understands and looks at life a
whole different way than any other person I know of.
Lastly, the
animal I feel a special connection with is a giraffe because just like myself a
giraffe is tall and also very calm. A significant childhood connection I had
with a tree would defiantly be a cactus because I remember being severely injured
by the thorns of a cactus one time.
Steven,
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate how specific and comprehensive your plan for the future is. As well I like how you had both short term and long term goals to help guide your successful journey.

Steven,
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you know your parents have expectations for you but that you should do all those things for yourself for the long run.

Steven,
ReplyDeleteIt's impressive to see your constructed plan for your future! I totally relate when you talk about your parents wanting you to succeed, causing you to feel you owe part of your dedication to a better life to them, yet understanding that you alone have the control to guide what career and lifestyle you will have. It feels really exceptional to make parents happy, but it feels better when we feel some sort of self-fulfillment and achieve our personal dreams. It sounds like you are a man of many hats, all pertaining to business. Just be careful not to overwhelm yourself with too much work and don't forget to enjoy the moments while you're thinking "What's next?".
Thanks for letting us into your world!
Jessica
